Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module a student should be able to:

  • Critically analyse the nutritional requirements of mothers and/or their infants and the impact of the developing mother-infant relationship
  • Critically discuss the current knowledge regarding how optimal and suboptimal nutrition and nurture influence maternal, neonatal and family health outcomes
  • Debate global, national and local policies and recommendations with regard to the Protection, Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding and achieving optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF)
  • Critically analyse the political, economic and socio-cultural influences on maternal and/or infant nutrition, nurture and early parenting behaviours
  • Critically evaluate the effectiveness of strategies for improving maternal and/or infant nutrition and nurture at the micro, meso and macro level
